The British Colonist, the first BC newspaper to use steam power to run the cylinder press. In addition to printing the newspaper, the cylinder press running of steam power, could produce upwards of 5,000 impressions per hour. The Colonist Steam Press printed invoices for Casamayou & Company. Labels, and other forms of printed matter required by businesses would be printed by the Colonist Steam Press. Imported metal type fonts combined with an engraving of a sternwheeler provided Casamayou &Company with an impressive printed graphic that would be helpful in establishing this business as a “brand”.

The success of the British Colonist can be partly attributed to its constant upgrading of new technology.
